Forced sale…

… I’m moving and I’m unable to take my precious “Tink” (short for Tinkerbell) with me. It’s heartbreaking. I LOVE this car. I hope you love her, too.

There are a million 1275s with Mini-lites and disc brakes. There are some roaches, and there are some nice ones. They’re fun! These are great cars for car people. But they’re not original.

And then there are some original cars. And they’re fantastic, too! Each with their own quirks.

But there are fewer than a handful with documented period racing history.

And almost all of those have been developed. They are definitely not as raced in the 1960s.

This ex-Emory Smith car is offered as exceptionally original, with many original parts, and has documented Southern California mid-1960s racing history. This is a rare find indeed.

I bought the car from Emory in 1994; he was the second owner. He bought the car in ’62 or ’63 from the original owner.

Since ’94, Tink has served as my daily driver on and off for many years. Well sorted, very original. As you can see from the racing photo Emory gave me when I bought the car (along with his racing notes and helmet), he had the car repainted BRG when he put it up for sale at Lomita Sportscar Repair on PCH and Oak. I’ve kept it much as he had it. Comes with the original 948 and the original smooth case gearbox, brooklands style racing windscreen (as pictured, but cracked long ago before I got the car), the roll bar, bumper, original top frame and top. I also have a wooden steering wheel if you want to try a different look. I’ve kept Emory’s suspension modifications intact. They make her very, very fun.

Emory competed in a bunch of races in this sprite – a few Santa Barbara Road Races, San Luis Obispo, and the Times Grand Prix at Riverside Raceway. The car and his name are in the programs pictured.

Obviously, this history is not as significant as the $250k Sebring Sprites or prototypes. But this is no run of the mill Sprite either. This cute girl is somewhere in between for significance of racing Sprites, but she’ll always have a special place in my heart.

When I first got her, I entered her in the Palos Verdes Concours and we won the people’s choice award. It was fun! She’s never been and would never be (with me) a concours car because I wanted to honor the way Emory kept her all those years.

I am so extremely grateful for the fulfilling years I have had with Tink. She always started when I needed her and she always got me where I needed to go – rain or shine. She has been lovingly stored in a garage in Southern California for her entire life with me. She’s not perfect, but she’s just the best to me. Very solid runner.

Serious inquiries only. If you want to pay plain Sprite money, this is not the car for you. If you want something truly special, let’s talk.

Rising Star Katrin Kampmann Opens Tonight at GARBOUSHIAN GALLERY

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

Phenomenal color, ingenious composition and a whole fresh take on Art bring Katrin Kampmann, Berlin-based rising star into the spotlight tonight at GARBOUSHIAN GALLERY in Beverly Hills.Katrin Kampmann's Goodbye Tomorrow at GARBOUSHIAN GALLERY

It’s not often that a new artist really makes an impact on the art world, but Katrin Kampmann, seen by many as an important pioneer of the neue junge wilde movement from Germany has done just that.  She’s standing the art world on its head with honest, frank, and expressive reflections of the world around her – and her first Gallery Exhibition, entitled “Goodbye Tomorrow” in the United States opens tonight at GARBOUSHIAN GALLERY in the Golden Triangle of Beverly Wilshire.

Goodbye Tomorrow is a masterwork of intrigue provoked by deep layers and facets of reality, and Kampmann’s work, while visually stunning in any form, is of course best-appreciated in person.  Serious art collectors from around the globe have already begun appreciating Kampmann’s work, and her Art isn’t taken lightly by anyone.

Goodbye Tomorrow will be on exhibit at GARBOUSHIAN GALLERY through April 30th.

Together: A Showcase of Rising Talents in Los Angeles Performing Art/GARBOUSHIAN GALLERY March 8th 2011

Monday, March 7th, 2011

Normally, I find the term “tour de force” an overused, hyperbolic cliché.  However in this case, what Herair Garboushian has arranged for the GARBOUSHIAN GALLERY in Beverly Hills tomorrow night, the term is completely aprapo.

The Landmark Sports Agency Signed Wesley Johnson Shines in NBA All-Star Weekend

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Rob Pelinka and his team at The Landmark Sports Agency have  landed first round draft pick Wesley JaMarr Johnson the Minesota Timberwolves.

Landmark and Wesley Johnson

Wesley Johnson of the Minn T'Wolves showed well at the NBA All-Star Weekend

The 6’7″ Texan played college hoops with Syracuse, positioning himself as a dominator on the court and raising a lot of eyebrows as he led his team (and scoring 25 points) to beat favored North Carolina.  He continues to score in his first year in the NBA at the Minnesota Timberwolves, already scoring 24 points against the formidable New Orleans Hornets and then getting to show his stuff as a Rookie All-Star.  Playing off the bench, Johnson scored 25 and helped his team to beat the ranking All-Star Second Year team.

Rob Pelinka continues to guide his career and help him to be placed such that he will achieve notice and eventually ultimate success in the NBA.

Team Tyrrell Mourns the Loss of Brilliant Tyrrell F1 Designer Derek Gardner

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

Team Tyrrell is sad to have lost our old friend, Derek Gardner.

Derek Gardner stands over racing's best-kept secret, Tyrrell SP - soon to be world Championship winning Tyrrell 001

Derek Gardner stands over racing's best-kept secret, Tyrrell SP - soon to be world Championship winning Tyrrell 001

Derek was the brilliant designer behind the Championship-Winning (World beating, Ferrarri-beating, ALL-COMERS beating) Tyrrells in the early 70’s.  It was Gardner’s and Tyrrell’s garigiste spirit that Enzo Ferrari deplored as his beautiful V-12 machines lost race after race to the plucky Brits with Jackie Stewart leading the charge behind the wheel.
Derek had been quite ill for some years, and as a result had stopped coming to the races.  His stories were wonderful, and his genius and quiet humility will be sorely missed.  He passed last night as quietly as his humble personality.  Our condolences go to his family.  May Derek Gardner rest in peace with our many thanks.
