Greater Hope Preparatory School for infants to five-year-olds is open in Barstow, California with the first day of school set to be January 16th, 2012.

The new school, “Where Children Reign Supreme”, focuses on creative energy and giving children a place to grow and thrive, already has a waiting list. Founded by Greater Hope Foundation’s Helena Smith, the school for kindergarten and pre-school aged children only has 74 spots available, and they have all been filled.

This past November 8th and 9th, Chris, Suzy and Sara of Fowler & Moore and Fowler & Moore AT HOME hosted their most successful Creative Holiday Decorating event ever.

The two events in two days format worked well as Fowler & Moore AT HOME, in Redondo Beach’s Riviera Village, remained comfortable for attendees despite selling out quickly. Each designer had time to showcase at least one unique idea, answer questions for those gathered, and posit new ideas showing the latest Holiday decorating trends creating new Winter trends in interior design.

In addition to selling out of space, customers appreciated the value and simplicity offered by their suggestions, and many items in the store sold out quickly after the events.

Herair Garboushian has brought Shana Nys Dambrot in to his gallery to collect some of the great artists of our time. On display will be works from David LaChapelle, Gina Stepaniuk, Casey Lee Wanlass, Rick Robinson, Austin Young, Swinda Reichelt, Alexandria Lee, Grant Vetter, Jennifer Vanderpool, Peter Wu and York Chang.

With such disparate styles, it’s hard to imagine any commonality (besides all great pieces from great artists) – but Nys Dambrot has managed to pull together an intriguing combination of pieces surrounding the theme of our consumption as a society. As with any great exhibition, these seemingly dissimilar pieces come together to create an exploration better – more consuming philosophically – than the individual pieces alone.

CONSUMPTIVE is on view at the GARBOUSHIAN GALLERY in Beverly Wilshire, from 11 November though 16 December.

The granddaughter of a traditional Chinese doctor, whose specialty was herbal medicine, Suli first caught the inspiration to become a chemist from observing her grandfather’s work. She, too, decided to explore the essence found in herbs and plants not normally associated with western medicine.

Suli studied chemistry and graduated with honors. For years she researched the Chinese herbal cures her grandfather had taught her and put them to rigid scientific tests. The result was that many of these plant and herbal extracts widely used in Asia proved to be highly effective. When Suli began noticing problems in her own skin, such as drying, premature wrinkling and breaking out, due to stress and change in environment, she surveyed the range of skin care products available to her. With the eye of a scientist, she found that the cosmetics available worked on a poor scientific principle: “fixing the symptom” instead of curing the root cause.

Suli, as a chemist, sought for the first time to recreate the optimum environment for the skin, based on the knowledge that the skin, just like the body’s immune system, seeks to heal and protect itself. She knew that if the right environment could be recreated, the complexion should automatically revert to that of younger skin, or as close to it as possible. This was an impressive order to fill, but she achieved this result by combining just the right mixture of natural skin emollients, DNA, RNA, herbal extracts, amino acids, proteins, and balancing them all to a proper pH level, to recreate, as accurately as possible, that optimum environment for the skin. It was a goal to which Suli dedicated herself, and achieved, using strict modern scientific techniques, as well as proven aspects of Chinese herbal knowledge.

American John Delane celebrates his first overall Historic Formula One Championship

with Ford engines, and Francois Cevert won his only Grand Prix in Tyrrell 002.  It is October 2011 and American John Delane has put the Tyrrell-Ford name back in the headlines by winning the overall FIA Historic Formula One Championship in Tyrrell 002 by coming 3rd overall (1st in class) in Race 1 of the season finale Jarama, Spain.  It is also the 50th anniversary of Phil Hill’s Formula One World Championship, the first for an American driver.

13th FIA Championship for Delane

From Redondo Beach, California, Delane is among the most successful of historic racing’s FIA Driver Champions, competing Historic Formula One (HFO) in Ford-Cosworth powered Tyrrell Formula One racing cars and the Lurani Trophy for Formula Juniors in a Ford-powered Lotus 18.  In years past, he has competed HFO in Tyrrell 001 (which belongs to the late Ken Tyrrell’s family), and this year he campaigned his own 1971 Tyrrell chassis 002.

Delane has now accrued 7 FIA Class ‘A’ HFO Championships in Tyrrell 002 (2002 – ’07 and ’10) and now for the first time, the overall 2011 Historic Formula One Championship.  John Delane also locked up his third overall FIA Lurani Trophy (in addition to 2 Class ‘C’ Luranis) for Formula Juniors (the late 1950’s equivalent of today’s GP2 racing series) in Algarve, Portugal last weekend bringing his FIA Championship total to 13.  It is the first time an American has won the overall Historic Formula One Championship and the first time anyone has won two overall FIA historic Championships in the same year.

Much of Delane’s success can be attributed to the consistency of his cars’ performance provided by the excellent preparation of Hall & Hall of Lincolnshire, England.  They often bring Delane’s original Tyrrell transporter to the historic racing events – it still hauls the cars just as it did forty years ago.  Hall & Hall’s prep work allows Delane to run his cars hard.   Delane’s 1959 Lotus 18 Formula Junior is powered by an 1100cc Ford-Cosworth 105E motor.  In Historic Formula One, Delane’s Tyrrells are powered by the venerable 500bhp long-stroke 3.0 liter Ford-Cosworth DFV, just as in 1971.

Beverly Hills’ most exciting art gallery, the GARBOUSHIAN, is supporting the Getty’s Pacific Standard Time, showcasing the impact of Californian artists on the art world from the 40’s through the 80’s.

GARBOUSHIAN GALLERY - California Armenian Pacific Standard Time, Leo Tchakalian and others on exhibit until November 5th

California Armenian Pacific Standard Time is a showcase of the part of this larger exhibition, showing specifically the most influential Armenian artists in California through the same period.  On display are some of the most important pieces from John Altoon, Charles Garabedian, Leo Krikorian, Paul Sarkisian, William Saroyan and Sam Tchakalian, among others.

It is an incredible display and already many important people from the art world, collectors and critics alike have heralded the Garboushian’s efforts to celebrate this wonderful modern art.

California Armenian Pacific Standard Time opened on September 14th and will only remain on exhibit until November 5th.

Prader-Willi California Foundation is hosting an event at a MLS L.A. Galaxy game! It will be a great time to hang out with family and friends and enjoy a great game with the Major League Soccer-leading Galaxy. Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare and very complex non-inherited genetic disorder. Symptoms associated with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) are believed to be caused in part by a defect in the hypothalamus, an important supervisory center in the brain that controls metabolism of fats and carbohydrates, the development of muscle tone, the regulation of the sleep-wake cycle, body temperature, blood pressure, heartbeat, the expression of emotions, and many more functions of the body.

The game is on Saturday, September 17th at 7:30pm.
